Graduation and a new start!

Since the last time we've spoken, I have obtained a new job, changed my outlook on life, recharged my love for fashion, rebuilt my fashion archive, gone on a few road trips, and recently (as of today) graduatedddd!

This is a whole new chapter to a road I will be unfamiliar with, but I am too excited for what's to come in the future!

Recently, I went to Austin with my good friend Antonio on a mission to hunt for the perfect graduation outfit for me. We totally ended up taking advantage of our day off! We started off at By George (our favorite designer boutique) right when we got into town. I love this boutique because the staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. Plus, their selection of designer (Celine, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Lanvin, etc.) is AMAZING. Totally reminds me of my other favorite boutique Forty Five Ten in Dallas.

Already, I found the perfect skirt by Hazel Brown (pictured above). This charcoal skirt has the most organic feel and has a good weight to it. The nude raw trimmed sash just adds the perfect touch to it. Woohooo that was easy. Antonio also was able to find me this Dries Van Noten jacket we've both been eying for a long time (80% off was definitely meant to be). Cannot wait to get use out of it!

Afterwards, we hit Moss, Brohemia (SUCH a great vintage shop for guys and great prices!! Antonio totally scored on amazing pieces there!), Feathers, and Uncommon Objects. Tons of fantastic finds that I will later post about. Anyway, I will leave you with a few pics of our delicious meal at South Congress Cafe, odds and ends at Uncommon Objects, and a picture of what Antonio and I wore on the trip. 'Til then!

The weather is beautiful in Houston! Quick outfit post since this is the first Sunday and free day I've had off in a long time. The weather is gorgeous and I hope it stays in the 70s for a while! About to spend the entire day studying for a midterm tomorrow. Cannot wait until I graduate in the Spring and move on to big and better things!

I am wearing a Juicy Couture sequin beanie, Elizabeth & James leather blazer, Prada beach print tee, Nanette Lepore black shorts, vintage rhinestone necklace, and BCBG flats.

Everyone who's close to me knows how OBSESSED I am with the color purple. Many of my accessories are purple hehe :)

FINALLY, a day off so I can relax. My full time job has been absorbing the life out of me. 8 hour shifts really suck the life out of a college student's summer. Good thing next Saturday I am going to Austin for a mini-vacation! Cannot wait to blog about that. The last time I went, I spent the entire day with a good friend vintage shopping, raiding Big Top Candy Shop, and finishing the night at Enoteca Vespaio and munching on Hey Cupcake! cupcakes. Anyway, before I leave to go grab Dim Sum (YUMMYYYYY!) with an old friend, I wanted to leave you with what I wore today (LOL, my belt is on sideways..whoops!):

There's something about buttery caramel leather that I can't get enough of. It seems to go with everything. I have an old Botkier caramel buttery hobo that I wear constantly, probably as much as these poor, dirty beaten-to-death Ann Demeulemeesters. Time to replace with one of my recent obsessions. Ann, meet Alex. Y'all will unite in a future outfit =)

Aside from that, Philip made enough Korean style short ribs to last us the entire week! Well, actually at the rate of our hunger probably only two days. Mmm mmm =D

EARTH TO AMEE!

Hi guys! WOW. It's been almost a year since I neglected and abandoned my poor blog. After much consideration (with the help of Philip and Houstonians that read my blog who see me), I have decided to start the daily blogging again. For all of those who have been wondering what the heck has been going on with me: I've finally got everything under control! My work, school, love, family, and friends are now pretty balanced so I have time to go back and do what I love. During the 7 months I have been MIA, I lost motivation for fashion. GASP, I know! It used to be my passion and my main hobby. Then somehow, through my slight depression and hectic stress I stopped caring. But alas, I rediscovered my love for it and am happier than ever =) Hopefully, my readers are still out there somewhere...and if y'all are...I wanted to apologize for being away so long and hope everyone is doing well! I appreciate all of the past comments and special emails I have received within this year from y'all!!

Deals & Steals

There seems to be a kind of rush of adrenaline I get when I find something really amazing on sale. After working in retail for approximately 5 years, I've grown accustomed to not paying full price for practically any clothing item (unless it's a really special piece I'm dying to own). So, I tend to wait and wait. At the end, if it's not there then it's not meant to be for the most part.

As you all may know, one of my favorite stores (since Houston has pretty much the worst shopping and customer service ever. YES I SAID IT!) happens to be Neiman's Last Call. The sales associates all pretty much know my name, it's quite sad haha. I try to make it there at least once every two weeks or whenever I get notified of a huge shipment from their sister store Bergdorf's. There are plenty of gorgeous pieces to be found at sensational prices; it just takes a lot of browsing! I love the fact that I can find designers that aren't even found in the main store at the Galleria such as Dries Van Noten, Maison Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemester, and Givenchy.

After scoring my Alaia's for nearly 80% off, I started to make sure I attended every Purse/Shoe event that they hosted. Most recently, I was able to snag a 3.1 Phillip Lim dress from seasons ago that I have not been able to find and a functional MBMJ Dr. Q bag. Best part: the dress and bag were originally $895 and $595, respectively. I paid approximately $90 for the dress and $200 for the bag. I totally flipped!!! So my entire outfit for today would have cost $3235, but of course that is not what I paid :P Yay for saving $$$! Now, all I have to do is start budgeting and creating lists before going out so I don't impulse buy as much as I do....

I have on: 3.1 Phillip Lim embellished mosaic dress, Dries Van Noten thin black belt, F21 tights, MBMJ Dr. Q Groovee quilted satchel, and Azzedine Alaia red patent cut out booties.

Wow, my hair couldn't be more horrific hahaha. Anyway, I would like to thank everyone who is still reading my practically deserted blog. I swear I always try to find time to update it, and things come up. I need to be zapped or something whenever I skip out on blogging :P Goodnight everyone!

Silent Predator

I was so excited to see my package being dropped off a couple days ago.....FINALLY it has arrived! I opened it and immediately wore it to work today and boy did the stares keep on coming. I am totally in love with my new Christopher Kane for Top Shop dress! The dramatic crocodile teeth = AMAZING! The fabric is soft and comfortable too. I paired it with my vintage faux leather jacket, Silence & Noise liquid leggings, and my Azzedine Alaia red patent cut out booties.

I've finally set aside a tiny bit of time to check out the new S/S '10 fashion shows and so far I've really liked the Viktor & Rolf and Burberry Prorsum collections. Something about pastel colors is always intriguing to me. Viktor & Rolf's use of structure and cut-outs was totally mesmerizing. I would seriously love to strut around town wearing one of those crazy concoctions haha! The draping, ruching, and sequin detail seen throughout Christopher Bailey's collection definitely caught my eye. I would definitely get so much use out of those beautiful skirts and that lavender trench. I have more favorites, but I will post those later.

Prim & Proper

Hello all! First exam week is finally over and I have time to post. I know I was planning to post more after the last post, but I did not anticipate work, school, and working out to be so time consuming. Also, I am starting to reevaluate my life and work on some aspects of myself. It's hard, but I know I can do it. Over the past few months, I have lost much passion and motivation in not only blogging, but school and life. Sometimes, do you ever feel like you've just lost yourself and wonder who you are? I believe that's what happened and is still happening. I'm hoping I can get past this and become the happy old Amee again! Nobody wants to hear about negative dribble drabble :) Anyway, I wanted to thank all of my readers for still keeping up with me. Seriously, I really appreciate the love and support!!!!!

Aside from feeling down for a few months, tragedy happened in the worst way. I knew it was my fault for leaving them on the floor in a corner, but I had no idea she would ever have the guts to do it...but she did :( I still love her, but RIP to my favorite pair of Chloe mustard criss cross heels. The sad part is she only annihilated one shoe. The other pair is dirty, but still in perfect wearable condition. Oh the hoorrrrrrrorrrrrrr! Oh well, I can look at this as a learning experience to never ever ever leave my precious shoes on the floor.

THE CULPRIT LICKING HER LIPS:

I was shopping at my local Neiman's Last Call (haven't been there in FOREVER) and found the cutest Phillip Lim top. Of course, I had to wear it out immediately. The puffed shoulders are so much fun! I decided to pair it with a Forever 21 zipper trimmed skirt and my Ann Demeulemeester lace up boots. Love them to death since they are comfortable as heck!

[Quick Outfit Post for Sunday]

Wow, I cannot believe it has been a month since I have posted. I apologize for being totally MIA!! For the past couple of weeks, I have been slowly trying to balance out my life and learn new things along the way. I'm just going to bullet a couple of events that have been going on:

I finally got the courage to quit my job (they were not treating me right even after 2 years of bending over backwards for them).
I have not shopped for the past 2 months (except for my dress and blazer a couple days ago). I have been itching to buy something new! Lol.
My daily schedule consists of school, studying, body boarding at the beach, and hitting the gym every day
I have been sampling different cuisines around Houston...yum :9
Been reading everyone's blog daily, sorry if I don't comment as much as I use to!
Gained new perspectives to life: things happen for a reason and don't dwell on the past.

Anywho, I recently went shopping with some friends at American Apparel and fell in LOVE with this dress. Not only because the fit is superb, but the print reminded me of Dries Van Noten's Spring '09 line. As for the blazer, I've been stalking that sequin one at Zara's for some time, but never pushed myself to buy it since it was $180 and I've rarely had luck with good quality there (it's just me I know! Lol.). So when I was in there again, I found out they had ONE left in an XS marked down to $59.99. So stoked I had to snag it! Now, I am relieved I waited.

I wore this outfit to go grab some dinner at Benjy's: Zara white sequin blazer, American Apparel sweetheart grid mesh dress, Silence & Noise leggings, and Alaia red patent cutout booties.

I just found out Cirque du Soleil is playing in Houston this weekend; however, I could not grab tickets in time :( So bummed...oh well, I will just have to wait for my next trip to Vegas! I'm going to go see (500) Days of Summer today instead so that will definitely make up for it!!! Zooey Deschanel is adorabbbleeeee :)

***EDIT (6/18/2009): AHH I know I said I was going to post, but I have been swamped with studying for my summer session class and still dealing with issues with work (trying to switch to a new job). Plus, I have not been able to install Adobe Photoshop yet nor can I find the cord for my camera to upload pictures. ARGHH so mad. I guess you can say this is a hiatus until further notice :'( Feel free to shoot me emails if you have any questions!

I apologize to all of my readers for my delayed absence. I have been trying to preoccupy my time with mainly my supportive friends, the beach (body boarding helps me forget about everything!), art/music, good cuisine, school, and improving my health at the gym. Buuuuuuuuut, I have been constantly keeping up with your blogs, sweet comments, and emails. They really mean alot to me. It has been a rough two and a half weeks, but I have learned so much.

I will try to post my looks whenever I get around to installing Adobe Photoshop on my laptop and computer here at home. I have taken pictures, but haven't had the chance to upload. Hopefully soon! [Long Post: My Trip to Dallas]

I just got home around midnight and boy am I tired. The house feels so quiet right now because Java and Zoe are still at my parents' home. I'm picking them up tomorrow in Katy. I also plan to visit my family and two of my close friends from high school, plus do a little shopping at Last Call (it's the last day to take 25% off your entire purchase!!!) while Philip is out surfing.

Anyway, this trip has been pretty much amazing. Philip, his sister, and I were able to do so many things:

Eat at both of our favorite Indian restaurants here (it's going to be our new tradition)
Chow down at Aw Shucks (so crowded but sooo goooood)
See Star Trek (it was alright for me...the guy who plays Kirk is pretty cute)
Margaritas, Lychee martinis, White Russians, Blue Moons
Try out frozen custard
Check out Allen outlet; the most satisfying part was buying these little frozen ice treats
Grocery shopping at Central Market = SO FUN. NEED MORE WATERMELON TWIZZLER THINGS.

Cannot wait 'til she comes to Houston again!

You may all have seen pictures of my trip to visit Judy, Nini, and Hanh on their pages and finally I am posting mine! I had a fantastic time meeting these three fabulous ladies! They are so down-to-earth, sweet, and of course...STYLISH! I also really appreciate them showing Philip and I around! We had such a great time and would love to be able to see them again soon :)

We started out our day at 4510. Needless to say, this is my new favorite boutique. Ever since Mix Modern has closed in Houston, I cannot find any place that carries Margiela, Rick Owens, or has even heard of Comme Des Garcons. So aggravating, but true. The ladies at 4510 are sweethearts and we had fun shopping around. I ended up coming back here again Tuesday to shop a little bit more and look at their pre-sale items.

The weather was very accommodating that day so we all decided it would be a good idea to eat outside at Taco Diner. We walked around a bit first though to take pictures. Everyone whipped out their amazingly advanced cameras. Note to self: I totally need to bring my camera to the 21st blogging century (still love the camera you gave me very much Philip!! Lol :P). Afterwards, we all headed out to Ahab Bowen. Such a cute little vintage place. I must come here again. We all found some amazing things. Just stay tune for all of our goodies! I ended up with two Burberry inspired spike necklaces, an intense ginormous bolero, and a black jumpsuit that reminds me of Dynasty. Cannot wait to see everyone's fun things on/in an outfit!

My trip ended with a shopping trip at Barney's. It's such a shame Houston only has a Co-op (I know, I totally bash Houston too much..I was born and raised here in H-town, but Dallas is my ideal city!). I ended up purchasing a couple things. After Judy told me about how comfortable her Stella McCartney mesh sandals were, I knew I had to have them. They just look so darn cute on your feet! Only situation is:

I'm leaning towards black just because I have no black shoes (seriously!). But the nude is such a pretty nude!!!!!!! If I can have both that would be magical :)

[Over the Top or Simple Chic?]

I find myself always pondering about this quote that my manager told me the very first time I met her: "It's better to be over dressed than under dressed." I've attempted to find a balance between going all out and being casually cool. However, I realized I loved both sides of the spectrum: being able to wear a crazy outfit that gets many people pointing and staring and throwing on a simple soft tee with jeans and fun shoes. Some people love being over the top all of the time while others tend to lean towards classic basics and cuts. Is there really a right answer to my manager's quote? Should there be a balance? Maybe it depends on the situation. Or perhaps it's really all about having fun and not worrying about the outfit that is the key. What do you think?

I just found two pictures that pertain to my question. Both women have very different, unique styles. One photo includes the outrageous and spontaneous Anna Dello Russo in her insane Dolce & Gabbana dress and killer Louboutin zipper heels. The other is of my favorite gal Miroslava Duma in a simple and elegant blazer and matching trousers. I adore both, of course.

Apparently, Accuweather.com says it's going to rain. Oh gosh, hopefully this isn't going to be like San Marcos all over again!

On another side note, I am TOTALLY craving mangosteen right now. Has anyone ever had it? It is very sweet and basically melts in your mouth. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with a mango. The texture they say is like a well ripen plum. I can't really describe the flavor. You can find it in many Asian countries including Vietnam and Thailand. I recently saw a picture of Miroslava eating it on her vacation. She looks so cute!

[Old Things Become New Again]

So I was sifting through the guest closet in the house today trying to do a little spring cleaning before work and to my surprise, I found two huge bags of vintage pieces I bought last year that I thought I couldn't get wear out of. Boy was I wrong! A speckled secretary button up blouse, leather skirts, crazy 80's prom dresses, and my favorite for now: this cream lace flutter sleeve dress. I believe it's perfect to wear since it is light and refreshing, being that it is literally 95 degrees outside right now in Houston. The draping on the front is amazing and the bow in the back is so tacky that I love it. The length is a little more modest than I like it, but it'll work.

I then attempted to rummage through old jewelry I haven't worn in ages. I haven't worn them in so long that many pieces have started to turn different colors and rust O_O Man, I really need to do major spring cleaning in my closet and reorganize a couple things! That will be my goal before summer begins.

I am so excited to be done with finals! I have missed blogging, but have not forgotten to sneak a few peeks here and there at my favorite blogs during study breaks. More blogging to come once again to those who read :)

So I apologize for lack of posting more than like once every week and a half! Finals are attacking left and right and I will be free come second week of May. It's been so hectic Philip and I haven't even been able to celebrate our 3 year anniversary. He brought me 3 beautiful roses to work though on Wednesday and that made it a bit better ;) I cannot wait 'til summer begins! Well technically all 2 weeks of it since I am going to be taking summer school both semesters and working. Most likely during the beginning of my break in May Philip and I are going to be taking a trip to Dallas (woo hoo finally!) and at the end of my break in August we hope to plan a trip back to Las Vegas!

Well, I am waiting for my next class and sifting through pictures that inspire me at the moment. Many of them contain my new inspiration for denim!

[A New Staple Piece In My Wardrobe...or Two?]

An amazing find that I know I will truly be able to use forever: my new Givenchy blazer. The fit is impeccable and the sleeves cut off just right! I love how the pockets on the front make the blazer a little more unique and slightly a bit more casual. The jacket even has a bit of the infamous Balmain shoulders...but just a pinch, which is what I like. I feel as though I should have put on riding boots, jodhpurs, and a top hat for that Ralph Lauren equestrian look :P

I'm wearing the Givenchy blazer, a BCBG ruffle button up, James distressed jeans, and my Miu Miu floral carved heels.

BADASS: I just found these at my Neiman's outlet a while ago and I told myself I cannot wear these out until I bring in A's on my next few tests. Wow, I cannot believe it's been over a week since I have blogged! I apologize, I have been so busy with work and school. It started last Thursday when my boutique hosted a trunk show for Austin jewelry designer Tracy Tenpenny. Her pieces are very romantic and feminine, basically a reflection of her style! Gorgeous woman with the most beautiful personality. I also love how her husband supports her love for jewelry making; I found it so cute that he knew EVERY piece's name!

Since then I have been studying hard for school and working more hours than before. This Friday though I had a chance to take a break (my first day off in a while) and Philip and I decided to make that trip to San Marcos since we missed out during Spring Break. WORST IDEA EVER! It rained and poured...and HAILED! I was shaking while driving because I could not see anything! We ended up having to stop under one of those highway bridges along with 15 other cars just to avoid the hail. Once we got there though, the sun started coming out (of course.........). I found a couple nice pieces at Neiman's Last Call and Saks Off 5th. One of them being these insanely gorgeous marbled print Dries Van Noten dress. The dress has shoulder pads (HAHA!) and the shoulders are embellished with multicolored sequins. I cannot believe it was originally $2135! Of course I didn't pay that much ;) It came with a thin black belt, which I didn't really like so I swapped it out for a new vintage Mimi Di N rainbow triple fish belt. It's new and I love it so much! Especially the pretty lavender color of the belt.

So today at around 11am was the epitome of what I call "perfect weather": sunny with a cool breeze. It couldn't have been better, although now the Houston weather has caught up to its normality and it is now 87 degrees outside. Anyway, I took pictures this morning and realized that my keyboard didn't work so I couldn't upload anything or blog. Apparently, Zoe bit the cord! BAD ZOE! I should have paid more attention. Thank goodness Philip keeps a bazillion keyboards in the house. So here is the little trouble maker herself, Zoe!

And of course, it was the perfect time to debut my new Comme Des Garcons deconstructed pinstripe blazer with the insane pockets! I feel so gangsta in it :P I also bought a pair of destroyed boyfriend shorts from Zara (I'm going back for more tomorrow!! They've got some good stuff in this season!), which totally resemble those Alexander Wang ones from his fall collection. In fact, I can't tell the difference.

I decided to take a couple pictures of the 3 layers of the jacket: the pinstripe blazer, the gray blazer, and the crazy drawstring pockets!

I am wearing my CDG deconstructed jacket, Forever 21 white tank, Zara destroyed shorts, and my studded black sock sandals.

Oh on a side note, thanks everyone for the birthday wishes! I ended up having a pretty good weekend. Aside from really good Vietnamese and Korean barbeque, I ended up making a B on my Acct II test. So excited, seeing that I never attend class (horrible teacher, why bother) and studied everything on my own.

The ever sweet Martina from The Little Fashion Treasury has tagged me with a questionnaire. I am sitting at home supposedly studying for Accounting II and I need a break. So here goes!

1. What is your current obsession?
My current obsession would have to be my new pup Zoe. I love her to pieces and I'm so excited to teach her new things! It's already been a week and she's already comfortable around Java, Philip, and I. Plus she can sit, give a high five, and jump. I will post more pictures of her once I get her groomed. She has like a bazillion fur mats EVERYWHERE!

2. Good coffee place?
I stopped drinking coffee ever since my favorite coffee shop Diedrich's was taken over by a salon. UGH. Yeah, I know there's another location on Montrose, but it is NOT the same! I used to spend hours there studying, playing scrabble, and admiring the unique people who hang out there. Now it's only a memory away. *Sigh* Stupid salon. I guess I would have to say I occasionally grab McCafe's hazel nut iced coffee or Cafe Du Monde iced coffee at the vietnamese Pho Saigon restaurant in Down Town.

3. Who was the last person you hugged?
Philip before he left for school. I'm not really much of a hugger. It took me a month before I actually felt comfortable hugging Philip when we first started dating. I'm like a hug-a-phobic, it's weird!!

4. Do you nap alot?
Nope, I just started napping during the afternoons when I started college. Before that, I've never napped a day in my life...except maybe when I was a baby haha.

5. What was the last thing you bought?
A Free People red water color mini skirt from work and a deconstructed Comme Des Garcons pinstripe blazer with insane pockets.

6. What is your favorite weather?
Definitely not Houston weather. More so California weather: sunny with a cool breeze.

7. Say something to the person who tagged you.

8. If you could have a house totally paid for, fully furnished anywhere in the world, where would you want it to be?
Most likely somewhere in Europe. Perhaps, Italy or Paris? And the first person I would love to decorate the interior would be Judy Aldridge from Atlantis Home. Her home is amazing!! :)

9. Favorite vacation spot?
Oh I have so many: New York, London, Los Angeles, Florence, Paris, Las Vegas, Australia, and if Philip and I were rich... Tokyo!

10. Name the things you cannot live without.
My family, Philip, and my pups. And material-wise: my closet (with everything in it of course), the internet, and sushi.

11. What is your favorite scent/perfume?
Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue for Women as my favorite perfume. And don't laugh but my favorite scent is the smell at Home Depot or some giant hardware/home store (freshly cut wood or something?).

12. What would you like to have in your hands right now?
I'm totally wishing for these Ann Demeulemeester Flat Lace Up Boots and these Givenchy Lace Up Wedges. Also I've been wishing for these infamous pieces to show up on Ebay somewhere: Dries Fall 07 patent sneaker wedges, Ann D Fall 08 triple lace boots, Dries Spring 08 multi-fabric strap heels, and Miu Miu Candlestick mary janes.

13. What is your favorite tea flavor?
Chrysanthemum, with rock sugar.

14. What would you like to get rid of?
Pessimism. I need to be more optimistic.

15. If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go?
I would like to be scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef or surfing with Philip in Hawaii. I love being around water, always have!

16. What did you want to become as a child?
A zoo keeper. Haha.

Levi's all the way. Vintage or current.

I used to believe that Forever 21 jewelry was cheap and ugly; however, they have really stepped up their game within the past couple of months. I'm not one to splurge on jewelry so when it comes to quick pieces, I'm going to stick with F21. The pieces that I found online definitely will have a place in my jewelry box. And at such a reasonable price, I wouldn't be that sad if something were to happen to it (me being my clumsy self :P). I also notice how similar some pieces are to the real thing. Today was the perfect day to finally get use out of my new Ann Demeulemeester feather vest. Until it rained. But thank goodness I was already at work :) Everyone got a kick out of the vest. Especially my boss haha. She tried it on and was totally amused and amazed. I'm so in love with this vest it's not even funny. The only thing that is annoying me is that the vest for some reason doesn't close as well as it looks on the previous runway picture. I'm planning on sewing a hook to hold the front together. Here is my first outfit with the vest. I say first because I'm planning on wearing this thing again tomorrow :D

I am wearing the Ann D feather vest, Marni pink pleated long skirt, F21 lace sheer top, and my patent Maison Martin Margiela tabi boots.

On a side note, everybody say hello to fluffy pup Zoe! We believe that she is a Bolognese mix.

Long story short: We left the SPCA on Wednesday without any luck of finding a companion for Java and right as we were about to exit, I saw a lady with a cute little fluffy white dog. I kept staring at it from afar and the lady asks, "Do you want her?" I quickly turned my head around to see who she was talking to. Apparently, she was talking to me. I came over and started to play with the pup and ask the lady questions. Apparently, her mom doesn't have time for the little fluff anymore so they were planning on giving it away to the SPCA. We decided that this was fate and we took her home (for free!). She is too cute. Especially when she waddles with her fluffy harem pants like legs. As adorable as she is, Zoe has a bit of training ahead of her! And major grooming.

[Spring Break is Over]

This weekend, Philip and I took a day trip to San Antonio with our friend to celebrate his girlfriend's birthday. It would have been a longer trip plus Austin/SXSW and San Marcos if my stomach cramps did not hit this weekend (how unlucky am I!). We toured the River Walk, slurped margaritas, and had intense Mexican food. The weather was beautiful and the place was crowded. We definitely had a blast and will be returning here shortly to go tubing down New Braunfels, tour the undergrown cavern near there (it's my family's tradition lol), visit the safari, and of course Sea World :)

I was very disappointed that we couldn't make it to San Marcos to do some outlet shopping. However, I have been blessed with new shipments at our Off 5th and Last Call (that rarely happens!!). Let's just say I went craazyyyy! I love the fact that I can find such great pieces for such good prices. Definitely check yours out now!! My favorite find so far is this AMAZING Spring 08 Ann Demeulemeester feather vest. I cannot wait to get use out of it!! Here is a glimpse of it on the runway:

Many people find these camel toe boots disgusting and the "fashion police" criticize them for being too "out there." Whatever. For some strange reason, I've been drawn to these Maisin Martin Margiela tabi shoes for quite some time. And when Daul Kim and SJP were seen wearing them, I didn't feel as alone in liking them. There is something about the split toe that is mesmerizing to me. The only question I had was if they were comfortable or not, because they sure as hell look painful. At last, I was able to obtain these boots and to my surprise, they are extremely comfortable! The split toe doesn't bother me at all. Hopefully that answers many peoples' questions about them being painful or not :) I can't wait to get wear out of these before extremely hot weather sets in.

[It's Rodeo Time!]

I love that time of year when it's okay to pig out on crispy turkey legs, corn on the cob smothered in butter and seasoning, and not-so-good-for-you fried everything (twinkies, oreos, bananas, you name it!). The Rodeo is here in Houston and I am finally on Spring Break to enjoy it. I will be going when the sun comes out!! Today I'm going to work (allll dayyyy) but I'm already dressing up in spirit. I'm just missing my trusty cowgirl hat. Anyway, I have much to catch up on. My boyfriend and I have been sick for the last two days so I haven't been doing much except surfing the web, sleeping, and playing Mario Kart Wii. The weather is disgusting in Houston right now so hopefully it picks up in a day or two so we can go surfing, hit the rodeo, and Austin/San Antonio!

The weather is not allowing me to wear shorts or skirts, so I opted for my new jeans (they were a gift from my boss, yay for free $230 jeans!):

[Haider Ackermann Fall RTW 09]

I completely fell in love with his Fall 09 runway show. Every piece is totally covetable. I am now on a mission to find a long satin/silk skirt (specifcally in that gorgeous ruby color). Ugh, I would so die to own any of his asymmetrical jackets, especially the crazy gold sequined one. The draping and tailoring are impeccable. Note to self: Find a pair of supple, ruching leather thigh-high boots to tuck my harem pants in.

I don't think I've worked a Saturday in about two months. It actually felt like a breath of fresh air. I've been so busy with school so I usually take the weekend off to relax and of course, study some more.

The wait was finally over: I obtained my long-awaited items on Friday and wanted to wear them out the very next day. I cannot get over how weird and crazy this skirt is. There are two gigantic pockets (one is the picnic/gingham print and the other is plain navy), which have nautical rope drawstrings that you can play with to give the skirt its shape. Every time I tug and pull the strings, there is a completely different look (Philip had fun messing around with the pockets too!). It's a little heavy (I think there are more than 3 layers of fabric), but I definitely cannot wait to wear this again and again for the upcoming seasons. As for the Alaïas, I love them. They ended up fitting perfectly. The only drawback to the shoe is after wearing it a while, the cut outs leave imprints on my toes and ankle haha.

[A Love for Babooshka]

After reading about Babooshka Boutique on Jane's blog, I decided to check it out for myself. I totally fell in LOVE with Francesca's pieces, especially this bright blue high waisted ruffle skirt. I knew I had to have it. I also was coveting the "Gareth Pugh" like manta ray leggings and since I missed out on the real deal on Browns a while ago, I decided to get them too. I just received them yesterday and cannot believe how fantastic both pieces are!! I immediately wore out the leggings to school and they are so comfy. If you haven't already, seriously check out her boutique.

*Cool fact: Francesca was originally from Houston, TX. Oh, if only she opened up a boutique here. That would be so neat :)

Azzedine Alaïa Red Patent Dot Cut Out Booties: I cannot wait to pick them up. Hope they fit.

My friend recently told me that Neiman's Last Call was my favorite store. I have to admit it is. The amazing deals, treasures, and sold out random pieces that I find always keep me coming back. Good thing my parents' home is 5 minutes away from a Last Call. I received a call from my favorite sales associate at Neiman's Last Call informing me that they got a huge shipment yesterday from Bergdorf's and there is plenty available for pre-sale (GO VISIT YOUR'S NOW IF YOU HAVE ONE!). I am also awaiting an amazing Comme Des Garcons navy skirt, which I can't even begin to describe. It's nautical and picnic and all kinds of crazy. Ughhh March 6 is sooo farrr awayyyy.

[First time in 'non-skinny' pants in a while]

I don't think I've ever slipped on a pair of 'non-skinny' or 'non-boyfriend' jeans within the past 2 years. And to add to that, I don't think I've ever worn 7 For All Mankind jeans (their jeans have never fit me properly and I despised the hype it got). However, all of that changed when I was bored at work and tried on these high waisted trousers. AMAZING! Why didn't I ever try these on before? I feel a bazillion times taller and elongated (then again, it might be the 5 inch heels I have on). Only thing I don't like about these jeans are that I can't see my beautiful shoes! :P

So after Nini posted about her love for Haider Ackermann, it made me remember how much I loved his Fall 2008's runway show. Harem shorts over ruched leather pants with supple leather jackets and beautiful draping tops. I decided to take a spin on his leather pants and harem shorts technique. I realized after taking these pictures that I needed to bunch my pants more to give it that ruched look. Anyway, here's my spin on it:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day! We celebrated ours a day early on Friday the 13th and that was totally a big mistake. Read further for our unfortunate event:

I booked reservations at McCormick & Schmick's, a seafood restaurant we heard fantastic reviews about, a week earlier for Friday the 13th because we assumed Saturday was going to be packed. After work, Philip picked me up and when we got there it started to rain. We walked inside and I told the hostess that we had reservations. She looked through them, confused, and told us that we would have to wait. Why would we have to wait if we made reservations? We sat down and waited...and waited some more. It was more than 15 minutes of waiting and not only was the restaurant not crowded, but she sat down 5 couples before us that just walked through the door. After what felt like forever, the hostess (who forgot about us apparently) told another hostess to get us a seat. We then followed her where she sat us in a practically empty room in the corner. We looked around the room, which was 15% full (which still kept us wondering why we waited so long for a RESERVED table), and most people were already eating. 15 minutes of more waiting, nobody came to acknowledge us or give us water. Usually I don't gripe about these things because I used to work in the restaurant business so I have sympathy for these people; however, this is just sad. One nice guy, who looked new and was just a food carrier, came to us to ask us if we had been assisted. We told him no so he said he'd take care of us until our waiter showed up. We ordered our drinks and 15 minutes later, we flagged him down again to ask about the drinks and our waiter. He started to panic and said our waiter cannot be found. Really? There's about 6 waiters walking around doing nothing and we haven't even received a hello from a real waiter. And here's this best part: Literally 3 feet behind us, "our waiter" and a floor supervisor were arguing about us. The waiter was telling her that "our table was not in his zone and why should he have to take care of us." She told him he wasn't busy and he then points at our table and goes "No, I don't want them. I shouldn't have to take a table that's not mine." SERIOUSLY? Now we felt like the reject table in the entire room. Why wouldn't you want our $150 worth of food and tips? And why the hell would you both argue behind us instead of going to the back like civilized people? That was the last straw. It was my first time EVER doing this, but I got up and started to walk out. My boyfriend spotted the guy with our drinks, which looked liquefied and disgusting, and told him how mad I was and that this restaurant and the service ruined our Valentine's Day. He apologized and we left. It was an hour and 30 minutes and we were starving so we decided to go to our daily hole-in-the-wall sushi restaurant instead, spend 1/3 as much, and be 100% happier. I still couldn't fathom how such a nice restaurant could have the worst type of service: NO service on such a deserted day. Way to ruin it for us McCormick & Schmicks.

Excuse the rant, but that pretty much sums it up for our Valentine's Day. At least on Valentine's day we got to go eat dim sum and spend time with Philip's family at the last weekend of Body World's 2! Which was pretty much awesome!

So I was talking about a couple vintage finds in a few posts back and here is one of them: the most amazing pants I have ever seen in my life. They are high waisted, made up silk and lace, and have this wonderful slouchy feeling below the waist. I keep forgetting I am wearing nice pants rather than a pair of sweats because they are so comfy. I think I will get tons of use out of these pants. Anyway, just a quick outfit post since I have to get ready to go to work..and stop by Off Saks for their last day of an extra 20%/40% off ;)

Philip and I took Java to Discovery Green Park in Downtown today. We met a really nice couple with the most adorable Shih Tzus (I think I might want one now!). The cold weather that was emerging soon chased us all out. I definitely have to return so I can check out the daily Farmer's Market here and eat at the Lakeside Cafe. Apparently they serve delicious Kobe beef hot dogs and Basil Lemonade for really cheap.

So from my title you can tell that I missed school once again. This time I came an hour and thirty minutes earlier. I asked some goofy looking Asian kid if he needed a ride to the car and I was laughed and scoffed at. It was the last straw so I decided to take a trip to the Heights for some vintage shopping. I haven't been in a LONG time. Definitely left with some goodies, hoping to return for some other pieces this weekend. I left with a beautiful black taffeta and silk puffy sleeve bolero, high waisted lace pants, a belt with two lion heads, and a cute 3-d Valentine's Day dress. I was called into work early so I couldn't go antique furniture shopping (they seriously have some of the coolest stuff in the Heights!). Anyway, I busted out my new Forever 21 leggings today. They are FRIGGIN AWESOME!

1. Describe your personal style.
That's really hard for me to say since I'm still finding my personal style. I started out probably with the typical Houston style: "sweet southern gal with a bit of an edge." I wore a lot of cutesy mini dresses and cowboy boots back then. Since two years ago, I feel as though I have evolved quite a bit. I've learned more about different designers and decided that I should take bigger risks. People think my outfits are "out there" and "crazy" sometimes, but really I am just playing dress up (hence the blog name). Fashion repeats and recycles, but it's up to you to take it to the next level.

2.What are the staples in your wardrobe?
Outerwear, which I find quite odd because Houston is always so hot. Oh, and I have a bunch of skirts.

3. What's your signature look?
I don't have one, but hopefully put-together. :P

4. Who is your fashion muse?
Miroslava Duma. I posted about her a while back as one of my girl crushes. I also love following many bloggers and getting inspiration from them.

5. Favorite purchase of all time?
My Yaya Aflalo grey leather drape cardigan. I should give this thing a name, I wear it so much that it deserves one!

6. Biggest splurge?
I can't remember the last time I paid full price for anything. I think one of my old Marc Jacobs bags, which I don't even carry.

7. What's your beauty routine.
I really did wish I paid more attention to make-up and skincare. I'm pretty simple: I wash my face, put on Buff'd minerals, Kiehl's lip balm, line my eyes, and I'm out the door.

8. What jewelry do you never take off?
I hardly ever wear jewelry. If I do, it's usually my boar's tooth leather necklace or this woven bracelet that my mum got for me when she went to Can Cun this summer. It says "Amee and Phillip" on it. Cheesy I know :) My parents were arguing about how to spell his name (it's spelled with one L). My dad assured her that his name ended with an S (ie. Phillips, like the TV). Gee, it's been almost 3 years Mom and Dad! Haha.

9. What are you wishing for?
Givenchy SS09 lace up wedges, Dries FW 08 multi color strappy sandals, Miu Miu Candlestick Mary janes, and Ann Demeulemeester FW 08 triple lace ankle boots with the thin curved heel.

10. What are your obsessions?
Styling my mannequins at work and retail therapy. As of right now, blueberries. I just spent over $50 within the last two days on hundreds (probably one or two thousand) of them.

Sorry for my lack of posting...with all of the weather changes going on in Houston, I managed to catch a cold. Wasn't too pleasant. On top of that, I still had to go to work and school. Speaking of school, the worst thing happened to me yesterday. I drove to school an hour early to find parking (UH parking is at it's all time worst right now because they shut down half of the business parking lot to...guess what?! Build a new parking garage! Right when school is starting again rather than during the Winter Break! UGH.). I seriously missed my only class that day because I COULD NOT find a parking spot! I circled the ENTIRE campus and NOTHING! I even stooped low and tried to ask a few people if they wanted a ride to their car hoping to take their parking spot, but no success (That makes me wonder if I look like a creepy person O_O). I paid extra for a Student parking pass ($100+) this year and for what? Wasting gas. On the first day, I had to park in a dirt lot next to some old broken down houses because that was the only thing that was available. I need to start a petition and complain to the school authorities somehow (I realize complaining here won't get me anywhere). I ended up leaving school...feeling disappointed and ashamed for skipping class. My boyfriend said our homework was actually being collected that class and it was a fantastic lecture too. Double boo.

Anyway, aside from that rant, I just received an email this morning reminding me that today was the last day for Free Shipping on Urban Outfitters. I opened up the email and was greeted by Jane featuring her closet. Congrats to her! It was a fun read and I think it's so cool to be clicking onto one of the biggest online retailers and seeing her picture on the main page. I ended up ordering a couple things, including these Silence & Noise Blotchy Black Twig Jeans. I think these will a fun addition to my closet. God knows I need more jeans (Literally, 'cus I live out of three pairs at the moment).

On another side note, I just found the craziest, most awesome pair of leggings for $13.80 (Horrah for F21's insanely cheap prices):

Before I sign off, I will leave you with an outfit post from today. Nothing special, just trying to keep warm. That blasted Houston weather is driving me insane. One day it's 35 degrees F, then the next it is 85 degrees F. This is why the majority of Houston has some kind of cold!

I am wearing a vintage over-sized furry vest, Sacai black tuxedo top underneath, F21 skinny jeans, a mixed array of old Urban Outfitter bangles (that turned my arm green today!), and my beautiful Chloé black studded pumps. I zoomed up on the shoes really quickly and Java decided to show off her feet haha. I bought these shoes a little while ago (cannot resist over $1000 off) and finally had the chance to wear them. They are very comfortable and I can't wait to wear them again!

[Gotta Have Givenchy]

Riccardo Tisci has done it again and captured my heart for another season. We were all captivated by his addictive bandage open toe boots, intense criss-cross wedges, and all-black silhouettes adorned with Mr. T inspired 'bling bling' necklaces. Now, I am all about the spiderweb lace up wedges (both look extremely yummy) and Western style pieces (both clothing and cowboy-like heels) seen on his Spring '09 runway. Makes me want to suddenly dress like a little gaucho. I've already found a start to the middle look: These Urban Outfitter's Silence & Noise Leather Like Shorts are perfect. I believe the hardest part would be finding that fantastic cape...this means a trip to a couple vintage stores are an order.

[An Undecided Bag]

My boyfriend and I decided to go shopping at the Houston Galleria yesterday night. We haven't been in a long time, just because the traffic is such a turn off. We decided to hit Saks and Neiman's sales. Everything had been picked over, but I did find a couple pieces that I might go back for today (hoping they are still there). One of them includes this Prada Pizzo S Satchel. My boyfriend likes the version without the lace (the Tessuto). He believes my clumsy self will snag it in all sorts of places. I am kind of intrigued by the insane amount of lace. It's a bag I would usually not be into, but I can't help thinking about it. The only thing that makes me mad is that I could have bought the bag for 80% off at Saks or at least 75% off at Barney's. I will probably check into that today, but it stinks not having a credit card at hand. Paying everything by cash is a bit weird to me still because I usually live off of swiping a card. I am going to post about bags that I have been interested in, but what are your thoughts on this bag?

[Wanted: A New Friend for Java]

Everyone, meet my dog Java. She is a one year old Border Collie mix and was rescued by my boyfriend and I last year when she was just a little puppy. She is a medium sized dog and weighs about 45 lbs. She can sit, speak, lay down, roll over, jump, give us a high five, close/open doors, and is house trained and can roam freely around our house without causing chaos. She is the love of our life. Now that school is starting soon again, we feel as though she may need a friend because she gets lonely quite often. There are many dogs I want to get, but I want a dog that will be compatible with Java and keep her company.

I'm in love with Cavalier King Charles cocker spaniels, Corgi's, Pugs, and Bischon Frise. My boyfriend doesn't care as long as it's a good dog. We were hoping to find one around Java's age or perhaps even a puppy.

In the end, I am pretty sure I will know when the right dog comes along, but it doesn't hurt to research and learn ahead!

Anybody with a dog have any suggestions? I would like to know about certain breeds and their personalities and health issues.

Sorry I haven't been posting (to all of those who actually read my blog :P). I've been busy trying to figure out why I've been having such strange problems with my money. Throughout 2008, I have so far:

1. Lost my wallet
2. Had my purse stolen at school
3. Had my PayPal account hacked into and someone spent $2000 in Europe

And now, as of yesterday, I checked my bank account to find less than $20 left in it. I checked my transactions thinking WTF. Apparently, someone had stolen my debit/credit card number and duplicated a new magnetic Visa card and used it at a bunch of places in Houston. When I say a bunch, I mean A BUNCH. I don't understand why this keeps happening to me! I don't do anything else out of the ordinary that would allow someone to get my CC number. After I lost my wallet that year, I canceled everything and reopened a new bank account, CC, etc. Same thing when my purse was stolen at school. Apparently, my bank claims lady told me that someone must have retrieved it somehow, and then picked up all of the missing pieces like my name, the expiration date, etc. and sold the numbers to the an individual. That individual then started to use my card in small increments so my bank wouldn't recognize it as a weird charge. Thank goodness I checked my account because I wouldn't have even been able to afford movie tickets and dinner. Good news is, once the transactions finish pending, I can finish filling out my claims report and get my money back.

This makes me think of when those people tried to steal clothes from the boutique I work at. I cannot believe people out there would spend someone else's money. It's just WRONG. I hope what goes around comes around and they get what they deserve. Seriously, $350 at a grocery store? Wtheck are you cooking?? Ugh, sorry...just really really disappointed in people.

[Spotted: Sacai Clothing]

While wandering through Las Vegas' Barney's New York, a sales associate introduced to me a Japanese line of which I had never heard before: Sacai. The pieces had a well designed and constructed look and were made from very simple and raw fabrics. It reminded me of Yamamoto, Watanabe, and Demeulemeester. I soon read about the designer, Chitose Abe, and realized that she spent about 10 years working for Comme Des Garçons and Junya Watanabe as a knitwear assistant. In 1999, she broke away and started her new line. No wonder the pieces look so familiar. I am now on a mission to collect the cardigans and ruffle tunics from the Fall 08 line. Too bad the closest Barney's New York to me is in Dallas, which is about 4 hours away. Time to make a few phone calls.

It has a funny little tuxedo collar (reminded me of the casino dealers at the time in Vegas) and it drapes open beautifully in the back. I will wear it later during the week. Excuse the blurry back and for leaving the top buttons unbuttoned.

Off to work and then my boyfriend and I are going to stay a night or two at my parents' home in Katy. That means a trip to Target and Neiman's Last Call :)

Brown's Fashion Sale: I love browsing Browns. It always makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. It makes me happier when I get their notifications on their big sales. I've round up a couple items in this collage, which I feel I need :) I wouldn't mind if someone miraculously dropped the Rick Owens jacket on my doorstep though teehee.

Tom Binns Floral Thin Cuff £125 ($180.70)- Perfect piece for the upcoming S/S seasons. I love all of the cool colors together on this cuff.

Gareth Pugh Jodhpur Sweat Pants £130 ($187.93)- These are effin fantastic! They remind me of a manta ray, which is my favorite sea creature. I'm not sure how they would look on a short person like me, but with heels I would love to give these a whirl.

I couldn't wait to wear some of my new recent purchases and gifts to myself {especially my new heels) so I decided to combine a couple pieces together for work today. Here's a little collage I made of my outfit:

I am wearing my Lanvin jersey ruched boat neck tunic, Urban outfitters floral lace tights, Miu Miu tan floral carved heels, Old Navy brown belt, and Free People baroque waffle knit scarf.

I feel as though all of these pieces can be worn again and again and evolve with other outfits. One thing I need to focus on this year is to buy more versatile pieces rather than trendy ones. Anyway, I got to go clean the house now. My dog has shed everywhere...again :P

New Year's Resolutions for 2009
Another year has gone by and we've lived through and learned so much. There's still much more though that will await us in the year 2009. Each year I make a small check list of new year resolutions I want to accomplish. I think my five this year are pretty easy for many people to do; however, it will be a learning experience for me. I can't wait to get started already! What are your new year resolutions?

1. Learn how to cook// When I say cook, I mean really cook. Cooking Mama on the Nintendo DS doesn't count. I've always grown up not having that magic thumb that allows me to pull out scrumptious baked goods out of the oven or whip up a tasty salad like other people that I know. In fact, in the past, my cooking has been nearly chaotic and almost fatal (ie. I baked my friend a batch of brownies for helping my friend and I on a computer science project and somehow after taste testing the brownies I ended up with a chipped tooth 'til this very day. Let's just say the brownies were so hard that when thrown on the concrete outside, it didn't budge.)! My boyfriend knows how to make fantastic drinks and cook dinner without even hesitating. It's in his blood that he knows how to cook (mum and sisters are great at it!). I, can't even check to see how hot the oil is in the frying pan. So here's to 2009: Amee will learn how to make really yummy food!

2. Relive the glory days of playing the piano// I went to my boyfriend's parents' house last night to celebrate NYE and his family friends were there. Two of the girls played some songs on the piano that brought tears to my eyes. It makes me realize how much I didn't appreciate my parents for blowing thousands of dollars through 14 years of me learning to play the piano. I can't even finish the ending to Fur Elise. When I make the occasional trip back to my parents' home, I get nostalgic looking at all of my ribbons, trophies, and medals from the past. This talent that I had was something that I felt made me special. Watching the two girls has inspired me to try to get back into the routine of playing the piano, one song at a time. They've always said practice makes perfect, and now I do believe them.

3. Paint something special//I think I've become lazy or something and have dropped all of my aspirations to create! Art has always been something that interested me: I took art classes since elementary school 'til now, obsess over trips the museums, and have always had a thing for doodling and sketching since I first grabbed a pencil. I made a painting for my boyfriend one Valentine's Day and a friend commented that I was really good and I should keep it up. I failed to listen obviously. Right now, I have the urge to pick up a paintbrush again and just let go.

4. Stop worrying, you worry wart// It's a tendency..no more like a habit I need to break. There's only a certain amount of pessimism and worrying that people can take. It's affecting my health and I need to chill out. I'm thinking hopefully if I can occupy my time with painting, cooking, and playing the piano, I will have less time to worry. I know there is nothing wrong with over-thinking and planning, but I need to reduce the stress by being more optimistic and care-free. To me, this sounds like the easiest resolution to check off of the list, but I feel as though it will be one of the hardest.

5. Be closer to my family// I never had a bad childhood or anything of the sort, but I've always grown up wondering why I was an oddball. I had the personality of a typical rebellious teenager that did not want to be seen with her parents anywhere, anytime. After I moved out with my boyfriend, I realized how much I took my family for granted back then. Living on my own has taught me to become more independent, but also that my family will always be there for me no matter what. I make the effort to visit them every week and it actually has been easier for me to communicate to my mum and sister than it has ever in the past. My family is actually in Vietnam right now for the next 3 weeks and I miss them alot. Email has made it easier, but it's hard to be away from them for so long and know that they aren't 40 minutes away. So here's to spending time with people that I love!

Remember those insanely awesome wooden Miu Miu shoes with flowers carved into the heels I posted a while back? Well, they are now mine! I am so excited. I think they are one of the most wearable and original pieces ever! I love the tan/yellow like color and the carvings are so detailed. I can't wait to pair them up with an outfit. Something simple will do.

O was on break, PURE club was closed, and The Pool of the Gods was under construction right when we came and opened right when we left

Overall, we had a blast. It was nice going on a trip with my boyfriend by ourselves. Definitely relaxing vacation after disgusting finals. We are hoping to return soon.

So Monday night has got to be one of the most chaotic and frightening nights of my life, but so worth it because I feel really good about making things right. My long story:

I was working alone at my boutique that night doing the usual: cleaning and helping a mom/daughter couple look for clothes. Right when I was about to ring them up, a group of two guys, 5 girls, and a toddler came in. Let's just say they weren't ones to shop in a nice clothing store. Well, of course I offered to help, but they refused my help and were grabbing things left and right to try on (God knows a size 12 person cannot physically fit into a $600 BCBG Runway size 2 cocktail dress UGH). I actually recognized one of the girls before (she verbally harassed one of my coworkers a few months ago and stole a wallet). I felt worried and scared, thinking those people were going to steal. After the mother and daughter left, I went to help the people making a mess of things.

I asked one of the guys if he needed any help. He told me that his friend, who was from Georgia, is having a birthday party at one of the biggest clubs in Houston. He also mentioned that she was going to buy everyone an outfit in the store (Umm, who the hell buys things for a bunch of their friends during their own birthday?). I thought the story was fishy, but I wasn't going to openly judge. They started throwing a whole bunch of stuff on my counter telling me to ring it up. In the end, I had rung up about $5,000 (about 30 items) worth of stuff. Once they were ready to ring up, 3 of the girls, 1 guy, and the toddler left. I totally forgot to mention that this toddler went behind the counter TWICE and took my car keys and ran outside the door. Absurd.

I did the usual procedure: ask for ID and what card she was going to use. She handed me her ID and a Chase Visa card with a sticker that read "If unactivated, please call blah blah." I had an awkward feeling about this. I swiped the card and my system replied "Invalid Card" and the girl insisted that she was going to call her bank for an authorization number. RIGHT THERE I had a deja vu moment of what my coworker told me two days earlier:

"A group of people have been going around the shopping area and scamming sales associates into thinking that they need to get an authorization number to make the card work. The funny thing is, the card is legitimate, but there is a glitch in the system where the authorization code will go through and the transaction will be made. However, no money flows through. The people get what they want, but in the end the store doesn't get a transaction of money. Basically, those people scam you and make you think that they paid for their items, but really they didn't. These people usually plan this ahead of time and stalk small stores where they know not many people are working and an exit is easy to access from the counter."

I was basically living and breathing that situation. The girl called her "bank" and handed me the phone. The guy on the other line had a ghetto voice (I am PRETTY sure it was actually one of the guys that left on the phone), claiming he was from J.P. Morgan Chase bank (Chase is NOT open after 6pm on weekdays and it was 8pm already!). He gave me an authorization code and I listened but put in a faulty code in my system. It still went through (apparently you can use any stupid code to get the card to work). I decided I needed to take matters into my own hands. I didn't want to call the cops because it might threaten these people and they might have weapons or can seriously hurt me. I needed a way to call for help without pissing them off. So, I ended up playing dumb. I quickly canceled out the screen and claimed that the system logged me out and I would have to re-ring the entire transaction again. I apologized to the girl for her card not working and our system failing on her. She became irritated because she had somewhere to be. I called my coworker (the one who told me the story) and told her about the card not working and the lady is calling for an authorization number. She immediately knew what was going on and asked if I needed her to call the cops. I said yes and she stayed on the phone with me to buy more time. I kept apologizing to the customers and started re-ringing up the items very, very slowly.

5 minutes later (Thank the LORD), a cop arrived and watched the people at the counter. I quickly walked outside with him and explained to him what was going on. He called for more help and eventually about 8 more cops arrived. 5 cop cars were parked outside of the little boutique. The girl (or "ring leader of the scam") started making a big scene yelling out "I ain't got nothin' to hide, y'all can check my ID...I'm just tryin' to buy my shit." In the end, three of those people were handcuffed right on the scene. The guy with them apparently JUST got out of prison and one of the girls had 6 arrest warrants out for her. It was already an hour and thirty minutes past my time to close the store and I was damn cold from standing outside, but it was all SO FRICKING WORTH IT. I was scared out of my mind, but I am SO glad they did not leave with the store's merchandise and that they were caught. And to think they got away with stealing about $20,000 worth of merchandise from other stores around me. A few other cops drove out to look for the other 4 people that got away. I hope they were caught too.

Everyone has been calling me and my coworker heros because these people have been stealing for the past 2 weeks. I don't believe I am a hero. I am just thankful I'm alive (my boyfriend has been held at gunpoint before at the Galleria for making a company deposit of $25,000 at the bank so he knows how scared I was) and that justice was served. People should know that stealing is wrong. Why bother having something if you didn't work for it? It just makes no sense to me. Is it the rush? That you're too poor? It's Christmas time and it's easier to steal? There should be NO excuse for stealing.

Update: Tuesday when I was closing, one of the guys who was handcuffed came into my store again. My heart was POUNDING because I just had a dream the night before that the exact same guy came in and shot me because of what I did to him and his friends. I thought I wasn't going to see tomorrow. Fortunately, he told me that a cop outside is allowing him to retrieve his ID that he left on a small table. I was relieved.

OMG, it snowed in Houston! The last time this happened, I graduated high school (about four years ago). It was so unexpected. Too bad I was being a party pooping loser and studying. My boyfriend played outside though with our dog Java. It was her first snow day. She was so excited :)

Lately, I've been swooning over shoes with intense heels. I have particularly been interested in these three types of Prada and Miu Miu from previous seasons. They're all practical to walk in; however, the unique heel leaves me forever in awe. I can see myself wearing a simple black or white outfit, and accenting it with the crazy shoe. Plus, each one of these three are basically a collector's item. MUST.FIND.NOW.

Miu Miu's Floral Carved Sandal- A simple tan sandal with a wooden floral pattern carved into the heel. That color goes with everythinggggg.

Miu Miu Candlestick Maryjanes- UGHHHH I want these the most. It's quirky and totally unexpected. It reminds me of something Disney or Kingdom of Hearts related.

Prada Nappa Delave Flower Pump/Sandal- I would love to own both. The floral heel is so feminine. I think I remember walking around the Saks sale rack a long time ago and seeing these; however, my size was never found.

People, I am a size 7. And I am in dire need of these beautiful pieces :)

So it has officially been confirmed: my boyfriend and I are going to Las Vegas for Christmas! My mom is so graciously and generously giving it to us as a Christmas gift. We are staying at Caesar's Palace for 5 days and coming home a day before Christmas Eve. I am SO excited. I haven't been there in about 5 years! My boyfriend and I turned 21 this year so it will be extra special. I cannot wait for all of the shopping, shows, gambling, and adventures we are going to have. Can anybody from Las Vegas or have been to Las Vegas recently lend me a few tidbits on where to shop?? :)

[Furry Finds]

I've been going on a fur collecting craze and was able to obtain 2 pieces so far at inexpensive price points. One is obnoxiously huge (think Paul Bunyan or something), zips up, and has pockets. The other one is cropped and is extremely soft. The first one was $18 and the second $3.75. Good think I didn't buy that $80 Zara one. I bought two for a little over 1/4 of what I would have paid for the Zara furry vest. I feel accomplished :)

The first one I ended up zipping it all the way to the top. I looked like a big furry bear. My dog was really scared.

After a week or so of a good ole Sex and the City episodes marathon plus watching the SATC movie about 5 times, I've come to the conclusion that I needed an outrageous statement jacket. Carrie Bradshaw has about 100 of them and I have none. I decided it was time to venture out to one of my favorite vintage shops: Retropolis. After digging through sequins, fringes, wild colors, PVC, and lace, I found an artful piece hidden between a few random '80s dresses. It was perfect: great length, appropriate Houston weather material, artistic scenes, and random geishas. AND WHAT? $18?? Sold.

I decided to wear it with a Rozae Nichols silk flower/bow (how CB!) dress, a vintage cobalt snakeskin handbag, and Marni patent acrylic wedges.

You may have seen me post on various fashion sites, but now I have finally settled down to a space that I can finally call my own. I plan on writing, mainly to document my life hoping to see how my style evolves over time. I am still finding it by the way.
