I find myself always pondering about this quote that my manager told me the very first time I met her: "It's better to be over dressed than under dressed." I've attempted to find a balance between going all out and being casually cool. However, I realized I loved both sides of the spectrum: being able to wear a crazy outfit that gets many people pointing and staring and throwing on a simple soft tee with jeans and fun shoes. Some people love being over the top all of the time while others tend to lean towards classic basics and cuts. Is there really a right answer to my manager's quote? Should there be a balance? Maybe it depends on the situation. Or perhaps it's really all about having fun and not worrying about the outfit that is the key. What do you think?
I just found two pictures that pertain to my question. Both women have very different, unique styles. One photo includes the outrageous and spontaneous Anna Dello Russo in her insane Dolce & Gabbana dress and killer Louboutin zipper heels. The other is of my favorite gal Miroslava Duma in a simple and elegant blazer and matching trousers. I adore both, of course.

On a side note, I am leaving for Dallas tomorrow! I will try to keep y'all up to date on my adventures! I am super excited to do some fun shopping, visit Philip's sister, and finally being able to meet Nini, Hanh, and Judy! However, I'm not so excited about driving tomorrow though. Apparently, Accuweather.com says it's going to rain. Oh gosh, hopefully this isn't going to be like San Marcos all over again!
On another side note, I am TOTALLY craving mangosteen right now. Has anyone ever had it? It is very sweet and basically melts in your mouth. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with a mango. The texture they say is like a well ripen plum. I can't really describe the flavor. You can find it in many Asian countries including Vietnam and Thailand. I recently saw a picture of Miroslava eating it on her vacation. She looks so cute!

AHHHH SO GOOOOD.

oh, Amme...I love your quote so much. Being a girl over-dress is fine that my husband said. But sometime we want to suit ourself in enviroment and keep it simple. The key is simple but still chic and stylish, i think. As you said "just have fun".
Drool,drool...I love that mangoteen..yummm...
I see you tomorrow. have a safe drive!
Hanh,

Oooooh...mangoesteen..it's one of Thailand's best, Amee! Although I prefer durian, but I also really like mangoesteen. It's so sweet and the texture is so silky.
Have fun with all the fabulous bloggers in Dallas and keep us posted!

Hi Amee...
how are you?
Thanks for your lovely comment!
Love what Hanh said!
ENJOY YOUR TRIP TO DALLAS!
You lucky girl ;)
WONDERFUL WEEKEND TO YOU!
i love a little bit of both, over the top and simplicity. it just depends on the occasion. but you know who's good at mixing these into 1 outfit? giovanna.
i think Miroslava Duma can be inspirational to women similar body type to her. because, like christina ricci, w/ her petite frame and her facial features she comes off looking a lot younger than what she really (or probably?) is. sometimes it happens to me that im mistaken for being a teenager.
enjoy your trip! ive never heard of mangoteen before but it sounds and looks beautiful and delicious!
OMG couldn't help but comment on the mangosteen, I LOVEEEE MANGOSTEEN!!!
loving your blog, heaps cute :)
ohhh mangosteen is one of my fave fruits too..
I had the same topic of conversation with my girlfriends on friday night!
I don't think you can go wrong with either, depending on what occasion really.
Enjoy your trip! Have fun in Dallas.
I prefer being over the top, if people dressed like the second pic as casually cool I would be ok....but they don't where I live. They wear jeans, uggs, and a juicy couture zip up. Thats the way I see it, plus it's more fun to dress up.
XOXOXO

Hi Amee, it is better to be over-dressed rather than not, imo. i agree with what Hanh said too, that it is equally important that we dress simple yet chic & stylish. i am new to your blog and i love how you protray yourself, humble and humorous :D About Mangoesteen, it can be found in most Asian countries and it is seasonal.. It's sweet & silky in texture. You wouldn't want a drip of its juice on your outfit as it will stain quite permanently.. :) It is one of my favourite fruit too. Take care & have yourself a safe & enjoyable journey!
I'm in love with your blog!Great style. i'm so happy to find so magnificent blog!
over the top sounds great!! :D
hmm i need some mango right now since that's all i can get!
Don't choose!!! Both are equally fantastic! Wear what you love and love what you wear. You can never go wrong with over-dressed in my book, though.
Hi Amee! This is such a great post! I ponder over this dilemma myself and what i've come to realize is how can fashion be fun if there are so many rules, so many Do's and don'ts..My motto is do what you want! I learned this especially after wearing my MMM jacket, where I did get stares, even in NYC, of all places..btw, come visit us, just posted some new pics you're gonna love!
xo!

this is my first stop to your blog! great stuff!
I had mangoesteen while I was in the Philippines a few months ago. It was the most amazing little fruit I've ever had. Such amazing color, texture, and flavor. Now I'm craving it again. :)
mangosteen is really really yummy... there's a chinese saying that they could decrease the body's "heatiness" which meant that maybe if you're having a fever or something, it will soothe you. but mangoesteen has its season, so its not really an all year round fruit. normally, it pairs with durian and is called "the queen of fruits" when durian is "the king of fruits"
1. i usually ere on the side of being overdressed, but i think as long as you put thought into what you're wearing, it will look good!
2. i love mangosteen! they also have it in hawaii! last time i was there, we had a big sampling of tropical fruits that you can't get in the continental US and mangosteen was definitely my favorite.
3. i saw pics of you and the dallas fashionistas and you guys are so cute. TX bloggers!
LOVE mangosteens, which I only discovered a few years ago, when I visited Malaysia, they do stain your clothes though, so the utmost care must be taken when eating them :)
I also believe it's better to be overdressed than underdressed, and love both outfits above. Although simple doesn't equate to underdressing in my books (as demonstrated brilliantly by Miroshka above) :)
Hope you have a ball in Dallas! Can't wait to hear what you come back with ;)
xx
